In 2018, Avis Carter lost her husband and became what the military refers to as a “Gold Star Wife.” Left alone as a widow, continuing to raise their 2 boys, and struggling to discover her purpose. Avis continued to enroll in courses to keep the hard lessons of life behind her.
Her first published book, “If Not For Him, Then for Whom, A Woman’s Journey Through Love, Marriage, Tragedy, and Triumph” is her breakthrough story woven along with fabric care instructions. Her story is a unique look at life through the tapestry of fabric and footwear.

Avis, a Sisterlocks™️ Practitioner, had been hesitant about getting locs for years. In fact, she felt there was no way she could give up combing through her hair. After years of weaves, braids, sew-ins, and the list goes on, her edges had taken a toll. At her wit’s end, Avis decided to get Sisterlocks™️. As it stands, she does not miss using a comb or brush. Avis loves her hair so much that she felt the need to help and serve others who want to start and embrace their Sisterlocks™️ journey. She completed her training in Milwaukee, and her hair has been locked for almost one year. Avis is proud to say she no longer misses buying hair products that almost never worked.
